This series will cover the terms that are important to know for every L&D professional in this age of rapidly evolving technology. Along with the blog, you will also be able to listen to the content as audio, to help you absorb the content on the go.
1. Artificial Intelligence (AI)
TLDR; AI enables computers to perform tasks traditionally done by humans, like reasoning and decision-making, revolutionizing the way we approach training and development. Integrating AI into L&D practices can enhance effectiveness by analyzing learner data π, personalizing experiences π, automating tasks βοΈ, and predicting future needs π, leading to better outcomes for individuals and organizations alike. Discover more about the evolution of AI and its applications in L&D in this comprehensive post!

π€π‘ What is AI?
Simply put, AI refers to computer systems capable of performing complex tasks that historically only a human could do, such as reasoning, making decisions, or solving problems.Β
Β
βπ Is AI a recent phenomenon?
Although the term became a buzzword in the last couple of years, it is NOT a recent technology. Believe it or not, the foundation was laid in the mid-20th century when Alan Turning asked, βCan Machines Think?β. So, it was not a sudden discovery but a result of decades of research in computer science and engineering.
Β
ββ Why didnβt I hear about it before? (assuming youβre not a CS graduate)
AI has been evolving over the last many decades. Scientists have tried various methods of applying them, but never before, until Nov 30, 2022, were they able to develop an implementation that would benefit a general audience. It all became possible over time because of the enhanced computing power of the modern computer. Faster internet connectivity also played a major role.
Β
βπΌ So do I have to use AI as an L&D professional?
While you’re not obliged to utilize AI, integrating it into your practice can significantly enhance your effectiveness. You might have heard this before, βWill AI replace instructional designers? – No, but the IDs who use AI will most likely replace IDs who do not!β
Β
ππ How can AI help me?
AI offers powerful tools for analyzing learner data, personalizing learning experiences, automating administrative tasks, and even predicting future learning needs. Embracing AI can streamline your processes, improve learner engagement, and ultimately lead to better outcomes for your organization.
